Snapchat recently added genderswap and baby face filters, which made the app useful again. At least for the short term. People quickly started using the face filters outside of Snapchat to change not only their own faces but also the faces of their favorite celebrities. Of course, there were a lot of Marvel characters among them. I mean, how does a group of cool, tough, strong people with cool superpowers turn into a bunch of baby-faced sweethearts? Yes, thank you! Scroll down, look at the photos that have been changed, and vote for your favorites.
A lot of people have stopped using Snapchat because of Instagram Stories, but the app knows how to get them back. Filters for Snapchat. People are using the app as it was meant to be used: as a way to make their photos more interesting so they can share them elsewhere.
Web analytics company Similar Web says that since the gender swap and baby filters became popular, the number of people who download Snapchat every day has gone up. Miley Cyrus and Sarah Silverman, among others, shared their Snapchat photos on Twitter and Instagram, which also helped. People who post their best edited photos often say they’re on Snapchat, but then they post the photos somewhere else. For example, YouTuber Roly West tweeted, “I love that Snapchat comes out with these new gender/baby face filters and everyone just downloads it again to upload the pictures to Instagram.”

The Verge says that Snapchat is not dead, even though the number of its users has stopped growing. The app relies on events like this to get people to use it instead of trying to compete with the nearly identical features on every Facebook property. The question that still needs to be answered is how long people will stay once a new face filter gets them interested again.
People might want to share photos of themselves on Instagram instead of Snapchat for a number of reasons, but the main one is probably that the Facebook-owned platform is much more fun to use. It’s easier to use and get around, and it’s easier to keep up with friends, influencers, and famous people.
But 186 million people still use Snapchat every day, and many of them are teenagers.
